The order matters, and the first minutes are what count:
- 1 Close the cylinder or mains gas valve at the source, not at the appliance.
- 2 Open windows and doors so the air changes.
- 3 Touch no electrical switch — no light, no extractor, no phone inside the room. The spark is the danger, not the gas alone.
- 4 Light nothing, and do not try to ignite a burner "just to check".
